Hello CAP 10 Students,

Your homework is to find a few video and or photo clips that you can use to create your 6 word video memoir tomorrow in class. You can use footage that you already have or shoot something new. Either way, you must have these clips available to download tomorrow during class.

You don't have to be in any of the clips yourself - that's up to you.

HERE'S THE LINK to the assignment. We will go over again tomorrow morning in class before you start editing your short memoir. I look forward to seeing what each of you create. Get some cool clips!

It's required that each group include multiple C-SPAN clips in their films. C-SPAN has a powerful search engine that allows you to search through their archives using key words. You can access the C-SPAN archives here: https://www.c-span.org/about/videoLibrary

Once you find a clip you want you need to identify the exact part of the video you need. For example, if you find an hour long video you'll need to identify which parts of the video you need.

Once you've identified multiple clips you can email C-SPAN. C-SPAN will clip out the parts you requested and will send you high quality clips you can include in your film. They're usually pretty quick in responding. Email C-SPAN using this address: <a href="mailto:%20educate@c-span.org?subject=StudentCam%202019" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #d21349; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">educate@c-span.org to request the clips you need.

Unfortunately, I will be out again today. You will continue to develop your Dystopian Trailers in your groups. In your groups, follow the directions below:

Bring up the Dystopian Project Proposal you were working on last class:
Dystopian Project Proposal

Scroll down the Dystopian Trailer Proposal to the Three Act Structure part (right under question 8). You must include important plot points from your fictitious story in your trailer.
Spend time developing all the scenes you plan to film for your trailer following the Three Act Structure. Most groups usually have anywhere from 5 to 7 total scenes that make up their trailers. If you want, you can get creative with how you plan out your story. For example, you can use some of the large white post it note papers to lay lay everything out. This is a photo from my middle school students years ago planning out a short film:

It's helpful to use a large piece of paper to develop everything that's going to happen in your trailer.

The next step involves writing your script. THE TWO COLUMN SCRIPT TEMPLATE IS ON THE BOTTOM OF The Dystopian Project Proposal. You are limited to 2 minutes (before credits roll) for your trailer. So your script shouldn't be longer than two pages. It's important to include EVERYTHING in your script that you plan to include in your trailer. Sound effects, music, text slides, dialogue, action, etc.

PLEASE DIVIDE YOUR SCRIPT INTO THE THREE ACTS.

I will sit with each group Wednesday and grade this work. The final step after this is creating your storyboards. But we will do that Wednesday.

PLEASE START REVIEWING YOUR CALENDARS SO YOU CAN FIGURE OUT WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FILM. THE GOAL IS THAT EVERYONE IS READY TO FILM BY THE END F THIS WEEK.

Today's assignment can be found on my Google Classroom. Many students did not turn in a word wall poster last class? Not sure why. These easy assignments will be your first grades this quarter and you only have this class time to complete. Everyone should have created and submitted their own word wall poster. Just as everyone must complete and submit FOUR Three Aspects of Film Handouts today. Make sure to get everything done as I will not take work submitted after today as you have ample class time to complete!

If you have extra time in class once you complete this assignment please use it wisely working on homework. I'm sure at this point everyone has homework they can catch up on. Thanks and see you soon.mrmayohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04754539735478068801noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2605316040129508773.post-58623631408324084902018-09-10T17:36:00.003-07:002018-09-11T02:55:48.202-07:00Sub Plans for Tuesday & WednesdayGood morning,
Please use the following code to join my Google Classroom: 61za4q

Today's lesson plan with handouts is posted on Google Classroom. You will be working in pairs. Each student must choose one word from the film list and create a well designed word wall poster. I will print all these out in color and hang around the room. More detailed directions are on the assignment handouts posted on my Google Classroom.

Look forward to seeing your work.

Unfortunately, I am out again today taking care of my daughter. Please follow the directions below as you continue planning your CAP Hollywood stories:

Carefully complete your story planning poster today. Please make sure you have added EVERY possible event or scene in the film from start to finish following the 3 act structure. Some groups were being too general with their events I noticed. Each group must list EVERY little thing that happens in each scene. The idea is that your group figures out all these details now so when you write the script you'll have an idea where you are going.

Once you have completed the story poster you can transition to starting the script. For CAP Hollywood, we are using the standard one column screenplay format. We were going to go over this on class today but instead you're going to have to use the following worksheet to figure it out.

Fortunately, there are only 4 basic elements in a screenplay format: Slugline, Action, Character's Names and Dialogue. CLICK THIS LINK TO SEE AN EXAMPLE OF THESE FOUR BASIC SCRIPT ELEMENTS.

Please work together as a group as you craft your script. It's never too early to start thinking about music and even sound effects. Google Docs is the best format for writing your script as every group member can be invited to be an editor. Group members can also start working on securing filming locations and reaching out to potential actors/actresses.

Feel free to email me with any questions this morning: cap10media@gmail. And please use the time today wisely. I look forward to reviewing your scripts Friday.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL THE CAP HOLLYWOOD STORY POSTERS ARE COLLECTED AND STORED IN MY ROOM AT THE END OF CLASS. YOU WILL CONTINUE TO USE THOSE OVER TH ENEXT FEW WEEKS!

Please make a copy of the following outline below using gdocs. Invite all your group members as well as Mr. Mayo (cap10media@gmail.com).

Documentary Research Outline

Each group member MUST assign themselves to ONE PART of the outline and begin their research using the MAIN IDEA HANDOUT. Voter Guides are located on the table next to my desk. Please make sure to return all voter guides by end of class.

First, each group must identify the main sections of your outline. What are the main ideas of your topic/issue that you need to elaborate on in your film? Then, each student in the group must choose what section of the outline they are responsible for.

Find ONE trusted source today that connects to your particular section of the outline. Read the article/source you find and complete the Main Idea Handout. Once you have completed the handout transfer the info to your Research Outline. It's a good idea for each student to color code what they add so everyone can see who is working/contributing.

MAIN IDEA HANDOUTS ARE DUE AT THE END OF CLASS TODAY. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PUT YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAMES ON HANDOUT BEFORE TURNING IN.

Each group must generate a list of at least FOUR potential people they can interview: Name, Title, Organization, Contact Info. Start this list at the bottom of your Research Outline. Time permitting, send out an email or two requesting interviews.

PLEASE USE CLASS TIME TODAY WISELY. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! :) mayo

Great meeting everyone this week. Here are the directions for creating your About Me Google Slide Presentation:

Create 8 to 10 slides sharing a few of the following aspects about yourself:

- Hobbies and/or interests
- Places you've traveled?
- Family pets?
- Unique talents?
- Other ideas?

Please include a personal motto for your last slide.

Please create your Google Slide Presentation using your non-school (personal) gmail account.

Please share your Google Slide Presentation with me using this email: cap10media@gmail.com

Have fun with this. There's really no wrong way to put this together. The goal is that we all learn a little about each other as we start the new year. I look forward to seeing everyone's presentations!

Everyone should complete this TONIGHT so you'll be ready to present tomorrow. This is especially important in light of the schedule mix ups happening. So please get this done.
